Dancing in the Dark

Right now, I am swimming in the sounds of John Coltrane's saxophone and Miles Davis' trumpet....oh, how I love jazz.

[I am always perplexed when people say that they hate jazz music.
"How can you hate it!?!? It's so FREE!!"
But everyone's entitled to their own opinion.....some people just don't have the ear for it.]

I've often thought about why I so strongly migrate towards jazz music. The best reason I've come up with is that it is the music of my soul (and even that doesn't make much sense...). It is music birthed out of freedom; it contains, within itself, its own movement. So...jazzy haha.

I also love watching jazz bands play live, simply because I enjoy watching people do something they truly love and become a part of. Jazz players are great musicians to watch because they become so engrossed with the music, they become uninhibited (then they make all those funny faces and tap their feet, etc).

"Many colors, swirling
Eyes closed, jazzing
It's all inside my head
."

That makes PERFECT sense.

There's a book (and film) by Roddy Doyle, an irish writer, called "The Commitments" where one of the characters describes Jazz as being akin to "Musical W**king"

I disagree, but it's one of those things that you either get or don't - for me it's all a bit too self indulgent, but then i'm fascinated by the cheezy nature of Country music, so who am i to speak?

Give me an album by Joy Division any day

I'm a heavy metal person myself, but there's nothing wrong with some jazz every now and then. Ideally, one should listen to a bit of every genre.

Disturbed - I'm glad it made sense to someone!

Pixie - Hahaha, musical w**king...I've never heard that one before. Ya know, I'm from Texas (the home of country) and I am not a big fan of country music. Strange stuff, eh?

Samurai - I agree, everyone should give every genre a chance. Freee yooour miiiind.

My brother says the same thing about himself. Hes very into 70's music. We had a laugh one time while musing as to why that is.

He said the same thing... maybe because its in my soul. The music of my soul. Maybe I existed in that time and it stuck with me into this next life.

I nodded my head and told him that it might just be the answer.
